North Carolina seemed to be cruising to victory up 11 points in the second, but Georgetown wasn't finished. They stormed back to tie the game and force overtime and then stunned North Carolina by getting 14 straight points in OT. The win secured Georgetown's first Final Four appearance in 22 years.

After the heartbreak in '82 coach John Thompson was on edge before the 1985 Finals, but Patrick Ewing was confident they would win. Ewing was right and Georgetown rolled over Akeem Olajuwon's Houston team, beating then by a margin of 9. The win secured Georgetown their first title.

Instead Georgetown barked back from a 14 point halftime deficit and Sleepy Floyd hit the game winning free throws. After the win coach John Thompson stokef the rivalry by famously declaring that "Manley Field House is officially closed."
