Paterno led the Nittany Lions into the 1983 Sugar Bowl with hopes of beating #1 Georgia to become national champions. Only leading by 3 early in the 4th quarter, Blackledge came off of a play-action to hit Garrity streaking down the sideline who made a leaping catch to secure the 48 yard touchdown pass and give Penn State a 10 point lead.
