The 2014 World Series ping ponged back and forth with each team having big high scoring games. Kansas City's highest scoring game was a 10 - 0 win in Game 6 but they started off the series with a big win in Game 2 and a huge 5 run 6th inning. The inning started with a Lorenzo Cain single and a walk to Eric Hosmer. Billy Butler singled to score Cain and advance Hosmer. After Alex Gordon flied out, a wild pitch advanced Hosmer and Terrance Gore, who had come in to run for Butler. 2014 AL Wild Card
Making the postseason
Kansas City vs. Oakland
9 - 8
September 30, 2014
Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
In Kansas City's first trip to the postseason in 29 years, they beat Oakland in an epic that lasted 4 hours and 45 minutes. Oakland jumped out to an early lead and by the 8th they were leading 7-3, but Kansas City wasn't done and battled back to take it to extra innings. After a scoreless 10th and 11th, Oakland scored one to take the lead in the 12th. With one out in the bottom of the 12th, Hosmer tripled and was brought home by a Colon single. After Gordon fouled out, Perez stepped up to bat needing to get on base or it'd go into more innings. Colon stole second on a bobbled catch to get into scoring position and Perez's walk off single won the game.
