In just his second season as the head coach for Oklahoma, Bob Stoops led them to an undefeated season and their seventh national championship. In a defensive battle with Florida State, Josh Heupel's hand off to Quentin Griffin for a 10yd touchdown run put the game out of reach for Florida State who failed to make an offensive score all game.

In a dramatic come from behind win, Oklahoma marched the ball 94 yards in 1:26 to tie the game at 17. Not satisfied with the tie, the Oklahoma defense forced a punt and gave the offense the ball back with 1:22 remaining. Keith Jackson made an amazing one handed catch for a 41 yd completion to put Oklahoma in range for the game winning field goal.

Orange Bowl, Miami, FL
Oklahoma cruised to an easy 5th national championship title against Penn State on New Year's Day in 1976. Shutting them out entirely in the second half, Oklahoma won by 15 points, but early in the 2nd quarter they had yet to score a touchdown and were down 3 - 7. A 71 yd touchdown from Jamelle Holieway to Keith Jackson solved that, and Oklahoma never trailed again.

Earlier in the day #1 ranked Ohio State had been upset in the Rose Bowl giving Oklahoma a chance at their 4th national championship. Oklahoma got an early touchdown in the first but then a defensive battle ensued and both teams went scoreless for the next two quarters. At the start of the 4th, Steve Davis made a 9 yard run for a touchdown, putting Oklahoma up by 2 scores and all but assuring them the win.
