With the Conference title on the line, the game went into double overtime tied at 1 apiece. Four minutes in Daniel Lacroix stole the puck and slotted it to Stephane Matteau, who was waiting in front of the net. Matteau hammered it home, and New York was on it's way to the Stanley Cup Finals with the announcers ringing out "Matteau! Matteau!"
