USA and Russia needed a sudden death shootout to decide a victor, and the game was put into TJ Oshie's hands. After Oshie scored two sudden death goals to keep USA alive, Jonathan Quick made a save that allowed Oshie the chance to win the game. On his sixth shootout attempt, Oshie got it by Bobrovsky and gave team USA the victory.
