2010 World Cup - Group Stage, S. Africa
Winning the group
USMNT vs Algeria
1 - 0
23 June, 2010
The US needed a win against Algeria to advance out of the group stage. They had two draws and another draw would not be good enough to go on. Win the game and win the group. Draw and go home. 90 minutes went by without either team scoring a goal. With 4 minutes of extra time put up on the board Landon Donovan led a breakaway attack, passing to Jozy Altidore who took a shot from the edge of the box with Dempsey closing in on the goalie. The Algerian goalie deflected and Dempsey was too far past to recover and strike when Donovan sliced in from center field to put the ball in the back of the net.

1994 World Cup - Group Stage, USA
Beating the favorites
USMNT vs Colombia
2 - 1
22 June, 1994
Columbia was picked by Pele to win this world cup on the back of a 28-game unbeaten run and a 5-0 defeat of Argentina. They were also heavily funded by drug lords at the apex of their power, and the team received death threat phone calls from their drug cartel sponsors in the dressing room minutes before kick-off. Yet, the Columbians lost to the massive underdog U.S. team in the sun-kissed Rose Bowl. Colmbia's captain, Andres Escobar, scored an own goal and, one month later, was murdered outside a Medellin nightclub for it.

2002 World Cup - Rnd of 16, S. Korea
Dos a Cero
USMNT vs Mexico
2 - 0
17 June, 2002
This is when 'Dos a Cero' took full flight, USA knocked out Mexico 2 to nothing after finishing dead last in the 1998 World Cup. Brian McBride had an early goal in the 7th minute off an assist from Josh Wolff following a blazing run from Claudio Reyna. Mexico never recovered and Landon Donovan put the game away in the 64th minute off a cross from Eddie Lewis.

1950 World Cup - Group Stage, Brazil
500 to 1
USMNT vs England
1 - 0
29 June, 1950
The experienced England team was favored in 500-1 over the amateur group of Americans who had been hastily put together as a team for the World Cup. Though England dominated the game, the US scored the lone goal in the 37th minute with a shot from Walter Bahr deflecting just enough off of a diving Joe Gaetjen's head to put the ball to the left of the keeper and in to the back of the net.
