In the gold medal game at the 2018 Winter Olympics, the United States women's national ice hockey team and the Canada women's national ice hockey team battled to a 2–2 tie through regulation and overtime, forcing a dramatic shootout. After multiple tense rounds and clutch saves from goaltender Maddie Rooney, it was veteran forward Jocelyne Lamoureux who delivered the defining moment. Skating in on her attempt, Lamoureux came in slow on the goalie, faked left, pulling the puck laterally across the crease before slipping it past the Canadian goalie with a calm backhand finish. The goal stood as the decisive tally of the shootout when Rooney denied Canada’s final shooter, sealing the victory. Lamoureux’s brilliance secured a 3–2 win and clinched the United States’ first Olympic gold in women’s hockey since 1998.
