With 11 seconds left on the shot clock and 43 seconds left in the game, Pervis Ellison calmly collected an offensive rebound and scoring on a put-back. The basket gaive Louisville a 3-pt lead over Duke and allowed Louisville to hold on to win the school?s 2nd National Championship.

Darrell Griffith scored the final points of his collegiate career with his transition jumpshot over UCLA. The basket gave the Cardinals a 58-56 lead over UCLA in the 1980 National Championship. Louisville held on to win the school's 1st National Championship.

Louisville stormed back late in the 2nd half of the National Quarterfinals game against West Virginia to cut the lead to 2-pts. Larry O?Bannon tied the game to send it to overtime, laying the ball in with 39 seconds remaining. Louisville won in overtime to secure a spot in the National Semifinals.

As part of a 39-14 run to close the game, Peyton Siva found an air-walking Kevin Ware for a back-door alley-oop to give Louisville an insurmountable lead over Syracuse in the Big East Championship game. Ware was injured in the National Quarterfinals, but continued to serve as an inspiration for the team.
