Arizona's standout player, Salim Stoudamire, dribbled himself into a pull up jumper and knocked it down with less than 3 seconds remaining, sending the Wildcats into the National Quarterfinals.

Arizona, the only team to win an NCAA crown after finishing as low as fifth place in its conference, capitalized on a 34-9 edge in free throws made to upend favored Kentucky. Arizona beat three 1 seeds, including Kentucky, on their way to winning the title; the only team to ever do so.

Sean Elliott, a Tuscon native and Arizona's all-time leading scorer, shined in the spotlight during a nationally televised game against Duke.
