1982 Big Game
The Play
California vs Stanford
25 - 20
20 November, 1982
Up by 1 point with only 4 seconds left in the game, Stanford felt so secure in their win that after the kickoff their band began to march on to the field. In what is now known as "The Play," Cal stunned Stanford with a 5 yard lateral play, running over band members to beat them as time expired.
2003 Regular Season
Win in 3OT
California vs USC
34 - 31
27 September, 2003
Cal was a heavy underdog against #3 USC but they never trailed in the game. Cal knuckled it out and took the game to triple overtime. Tyler Fredrickson's previous two field goal attempts had been blocked, but this 38 yarder sailed through the uprights and won the game.
2006 Regular Season
Punt return for TD
California vs Oregon
45 - 24
7 October, 2006
Oregon was heavily favored but Cal in their bright yellow jerseys took control from the start. DeSean Jackson's 64 yard punt return in the 2nd quarter seemed to seal the game. His touchdown put Cal up by 25 points, a margin Oregon couldn't overcome.
2009 Big Game
The Pick
California vs Stanford
34 - 28
21 November, 2009
The media heavily favored Stanford, but Cal proved they were the better team in 2009's Big Game. With time running out in the 4th, Cal was up a TD but Stanford was on the 13 and threatening to score. Mike Mohamed stepped up big to grab the interception and secure the win.
Common questions
Are these a good gift for a California fan?▾
Yes. This coaster set is made for a California fan who really knows and loves the team. They’ll recognize moments like The Play and Win in 3OT, and each coaster gives them another piece of California history to talk about. It’s more than a logo on a coaster — it’s a way to relive the plays and memories that made them a fan. It’s especially suited to a dad, husband, friend, or hard-to-shop-for California fan who already owns the usual team gear.
Is this a good Christmas gift for a California fan?▾
Yes. These coasters make a unique Christmas gift for California fans, especially someone who already has plenty of jerseys, hats, and traditional team gear. Each coaster brings back a memorable moment from California history, making the set both useful and personal to someone who really follows the team. Our coaster sets are especially popular as Christmas gifts, with more than 16,000 five-star reviews across Shopify and Etsy.
One customer wrote: “The quality is insane, perfectly matched description. Bought for my dad for Christmas and as a man that is incredibly hard to buy for he loved them and are a great convo starter with his friends, Great gift would buy from this seller again.” — Etsy Customer, January 11, 2023
What makes these different from traditional sports merchandise?▾
These coasters focus on memorable plays rather than a team logo. Each one features an original Playbook diagram of a real California play, drawn to show how the moment unfolded. Playbook Products is not affiliated with or endorsed by California or the NCAA.
How long do California coaster orders take to ship?▾
Most California coaster orders are processed within 1–2 business days, then typically arrive 2–4 business days after they ship (U.S.). During busy holiday periods, processing can take longer. A delivery date shown on this page is an estimate.
What if a coaster arrives cracked or damaged?▾
Send us a photo of the damaged coaster within 14 days of delivery and we'll send a replacement. Please hold onto the damaged coaster until we let you know otherwise.
Are these coaster designs AI-generated?▾
No. I've spent hundreds of hours reviewing footage of these plays and drawing them up as they happened. The finished drawings are laser-etched onto the coasters using our own machines. The artwork is not generated by AI. I appreciate you supporting a small business.
