Michigan State senior Mateen Cleaves limped his way to the Most Outstanding Player (MOP) of the 2000 Tournament. Cleaves sprained his ankle with 16:18 to play in the 2nd half, and this was after Florida had trimmed Michigan State's double digit halftime lead to 50-44. Cleaves returned about four minutes later, and immediately helped lead the Spartans on a 16-6 run to put the game out of reach. The lone top-seed remaining would bring order to a tournament filled with upsets as they salted away the victory for the school's second National Championship (1979). Michigan State coach Tom Izzo earned his first title, from his second straight National Semifinals appearance. Morris Peterson led the Spartans with 21 points.

On this play Magic gets the dunk and draws the foul. Undefeated Indiana State lost against Michigan State when the Sycamores' Larry Bird, who hit 53.2 percent of his field-goal attempts on the season, made just one-third of his shots from the floor (7 of 21) as a sore thumb limited his shooting effectiveness. Magic Johnson scored a game-high 24 points for the Spartans. The ballyhooed matchup between Bird and Magic aroused fans and generated the largest ever TV share for a championship final. On March 26, 1979, Earvin ?Magic? Johnson leads the Michigan State Spartans to a 75- 64 victory over Larry Bird?s Indiana State Sycamores in the men?s basketball championship game. The most watched college finale of its time, the game established Magic vs. Bird as a rivalry for the ages, and would catapult both players to pro superstardom.

Yes. This coaster set is made for a Michigan State fan who really knows and loves the team. They’ll recognize moments like The buzzer-beater and Second championship, and each coaster gives them another piece of Michigan State history to talk about. It’s more than a logo on a coaster — it’s a way to relive the plays and memories that made them a fan. It’s especially suited to a dad, husband, friend, or hard-to-shop-for Michigan State fan who already owns the usual team gear.

What makes these different from traditional sports merchandise?▾
These coasters focus on memorable plays rather than a team logo. Each one features an original Playbook diagram of a real Michigan State play, drawn to show how the moment unfolded. Playbook Products is not affiliated with or endorsed by Michigan State or the NCAA.
How long do Michigan State coaster orders take to ship?▾
Most Michigan State coaster orders are processed within 1–2 business days, then typically arrive 2–4 business days after they ship (U.S.). During busy holiday periods, processing can take longer. A delivery date shown on this page is an estimate.
What if a coaster arrives cracked or damaged?▾
Send us a photo of the damaged coaster within 14 days of delivery and we'll send a replacement. Please hold onto the damaged coaster until we let you know otherwise.
Are these coaster designs AI-generated?▾
No. I've spent hundreds of hours reviewing footage of these plays and drawing them up as they happened. The finished drawings are laser-etched onto the coasters using our own machines. The artwork is not generated by AI. I appreciate you supporting a small business.
