In the gold medal game of the 1998 Winter Olympics, the United States women's national ice hockey team seized momentum with their pivotal second goal against the Canada women's national ice hockey team. Midway through the game, forward Sandra Whyte capitalized on sustained offensive pressure, finding space in the slot and snapping a shot past the Canadian netminder to extend the American lead. The play, set up by crisp puck movement and relentless forechecking, shifted the energy firmly to the U.S. bench and silenced the Canadian surge. With captain Cammi Granato and her teammates pressing the attack, the goal underscored USA’s speed and composure on the sport’s biggest stage. Whyte’s finish proved decisive, helping propel the United States to a historic 3–1 victory and the first Olympic gold medal ever awarded in women’s ice hockey.
