The game was evenly matched and with under two minutes to go the score was tied at 60 apiece. From there Wisconsin went on an 11 - 4 run to win the game. The run started with a three-pointer on a step-back shot Sam Dekker. The win moved Wisconsin on to the title game.

Wisconsin's Cinderella team had a tough game against Purdue in the 2000 NCAA Round of 16. With under 3 minutes to play, Wisconsin had a one point lead and would never trail again. Roy Boone's jumper was the last field goal of the game. Wisconsin went on to score another 8 points on free throws to win a trip to the National Semifinals for only the second time in school history.

Nearing the end of the Big Ten Championship game, Bronson Koenig hit two free-throws to tie the game at 69 and send it to overtime. In OT it was all Wisconsin; they didn't allow a single basket from Michigan State. The start of the dominant 11 - 0 run came on a three pointer from Nigel Hayes off a pass from Frank Kaminsky. The win gave Wisconsin their third Big Ten title.
